Catch a train north from Gothenburg.  Take a ferry to the Koster Islands, North and South.  A paradise of hidden bays with white sand and calm icy cold water, jellyfish, pink granite rocks, cotton grass and dog roses.  Red painted wooden cabins and tiny fishing harbours.  On the mainland is Fjällbacka, a favourite haunt of Ingrid Bergman, and beyond is Tanum famous for its Bronze Age rock carvings.

Islands are scattered everywhere here but to feel really remote, take the launch out to the Weather Islands.  There is one small hotel and really nothing else to do but wander around the exquisite landscape then sit on a headland and watch the sun go down.
